Puppies eager to be adopted, were on display on National Adoption Day.

The SPCA of Livingston hosted a pet adoption at the PetSmart on Millerville Road in Baton Rouge on Sunday. The adoption featured a variety of adoptable puppies and adult dogs. It was one of many adoptions held across the country on National Adoption Day.

Screenings are required to adopt through the nonprofit. Adoption donations cover everything from spay-neuter surgeries to age-appropriate vaccines. Adopters received 30 days free pet insurance, puppy pack, a free bag of food, and money-saving coupons from PetSmart.

The mission of the SPCA of Livingston is to raise awareness of the plight of animals in southeast Louisiana, to teach and foster food pet parenting, and to promote spay and neuter programs. The organization takes in owner surrender animals through their Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender Program and from kill shelters within the region.
