Houston suspects in custody after beefy ATM burglary
The Gonzales Police Department reported Sunday that an ATM machine at the Pecan Grove Chevron was stolen after an SUV crashed through the front of the store.
Moreover, the Dodge Ram was found to be stolen from Jefferson Parish. A surveillance video caught clear shots of all four men, who were found hiding out in the back of a neighboring subdivision.
The charges are as follows:
Ronald Harvey, 41, 7373 N Wayside Houston, Texas: 1 ct Simple Burglary, 1ct of felony theft in excess of 5K but less than 25K, 1ct of Simple Criminal Damage over 1K to 50K.
Kyon Barnes, 22, 6603 Hirsh Houston, Texas: 1 ct Simple Burglary, 1ct of felony theft in excess of 5K but less than 25K, 1ct of Simple Criminal Damage over 1K to 50K.
Byron Aycock, 19, 1331 N Borough Houston, Texas: 1ct Simple Burglary, 1 ct of felony theft in excess of 5K but less than 25K, 1ct of simple criminal damage over 1K to 50K, 1 ct of illegal possession of stolen things 5k to 25K.
Marion McIntosh, 19, 7309 Gleason Houston, Texas: 1ct Simple Burglary, 1 ct of felony theft in excess of 5K but less than 25K, 1ct of simple criminal damage over 1K to 50K, 1 ct of illegal possession of stolen things 5k to 25K.
GPD reported that on October 29 near 4:40 a.m. officers were dispatched to the Pecan Grove Chevron after the alarm sounded. The officers witnessed the store front completely demolished and the ATM missing.
Patrol Officers located two suspicious vehicles in the back of neighboring subdivision after searching the area that morning. One of the vehicles attempted to flee, which was occupied by Byron Aycock, Ronald Harvey, Marion McIntosh, and Kyon Barnes.
After a short pursuit with the SUV three of the men jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot in the area of LA 30 and LA 44. All three were captured by police. Pursuing units were able to stop and arrest the driver of the SUV, Harvey, at LA 30 and La 73.
All subjects were detained after learning that the second suspicious vehicle from the subdivision was stolen out of Jefferson Parish. Video surveillance from Pecan Grove Chevron has linked the stolen truck from Jefferson Parish to the crime scene being the vehicle which was used to ram the store front to gain entry.
The video also links all four subject previously identified as the culprits of this crime. The ATM that was stolen was recovered in the rear of the SUV driven by Ronald Harvey and has been returned to the owner of Pecan Grove Chevron.
It is estimated that approximately 30K to 40K of damage has been done to the store.
These circumstances were similar to a reported “smash and grab" earlier in the year that occurred at POPNGOS convenience store located at LA 44 at I-10. In the March 1 ATM robbery, the Avis rental van used to destroy the storefront was rented by a man in Houston, Texas.
Lastly, "Investigators with the Gonzales Police Department whom responded to the Pecan Grove Chevron crime scene have been able to link at least one of the suspects from Pecan Grove Chevron to the POPNGOS burglary case, subject identified as Ronald Harvey, and additional charges will follow relative to that crime. All the above named suspects are from Houston, Texas and are not currently cooperating with investigators," reads the GPD criminal report.
