Time running out for farmers to purchase crop insurance
The final day for farmers to purchase federal crop insurance is approaching. The USDA's Risk Management Agency (RMA) reminds Louisiana producers the deadline to buy crop insurance for oats, sugarcane, and wheat is September 30.
Policyholders and uninsured growers who wish to buy a policy for the 2018 crop year have until the end of the month to decide what crops to insure and what coverage level to choose.
Federal crop insurance helps manage revenue risks and strengthens rural economies. Private crop insurance agents are the sole providers of crop insurance. A list of agents is available at all USDA Service Centers and online at the RMA Agent Locator. Farmers can use the online RMA Cost Estimator to get an estimate of their insurance needs.
