The Weekly Citizen wins at 2016 Louisiana Press Association convention
The Weekly Citizen is a member of the Louisiana Press Association, the statewide organization of 156 members promoting the newspaper publishing industry in Louisiana.
Elected to three-years terms at the joint convention held July 6-8 in Biloxi jointly with the Mississippi Press Association were Norris Babin, Co-Publisher and Editor of The Plaquemines Gazette (Belle Chase) and The St. Bernard Voice (Arabi); David Francis, Executive Vice President and Publisher of NOLA Media Group/The Times-Picayune, (New Orleans); Judi Terzotis, President and Publisher of The Town Talk (Alexandria), The Advertiser (Lafayette), The News-Star (Monroe), The Daily World (Opelousas), and The Times (Shreveport).
Officers serving the second year of two-year terms are: President Garland Forman, General Manager and Editor of The Bunkie Record; President-elect Renette Dejoie Hall, Publisher of the Louisiana Weekly (New Orleans), and Secretary-Treasurer Sam Hanna Jr., Publisher of The Ouachita Citizen (West Monroe). Tom Shearman III, Publisher of the American Press (Lake Charles), the Southwest Daily News (Sulphur) and The Vinton News will continue to serve as Past-President.
Continuing to serve as directors are: Clancy DuBos, Co-Owner Gambit Communications; Darrell Guillory, CEO of Louisiana State Newspapers and Publisher of The Eunice News and The Church Point News; Wilbur Reynaud, Publisher of the News Examiner-Enterprise (Lutcher/Vacherie); Dan Shea, President and Publisher of The Advocate (Baton Rouge), The Watchman (Clinton), The St. Tammany Farmer (Covington). The New Orleans Advocate, The St. Francisville Democrat and David Specht, President of Specht Newspapers, and newly appointed, Christina Pierce, Publisher of The Daily Iberian (New Iberia).
The 2017 President's Award was presented to Keith Magill, Executive Editor of The Courier (Houma) for his demonstrated leadership skills and contributions to Louisiana Press Association.
The Weekly Citizen placed in 15 different categories at this year's LPA awards in Division 5.
Kyle Riviere took 1st Place for "Best Sports Column." Riviere took 2nd Place for "Best Sports Story" and 3rd Place for "Best Overall Sports Coverage."
Moreover, Penny Martinez, Martine Duhe and Crystal Barrett took 1st Place for "Best Ad Campaign" and 1st Place for "Best Retailer Ad." Martine Duhe and Crystal Barrett took 1st Place for "Best Online Advertising Single Ad, Animated," as well as 1st Place for "Best Online Single Ad, Static." The Weekly Citizen also took 1st Place for "Best Special Section, Advertising," and 1st Place went to the staff for "Staff Generated Color."
Next, Liz Arceneaux, Jason Wall and Crystal Barrett took 2nd Place for "In-Paper Promotion." Aanifa LeBlanc, Bob Prejean and Crystal Barrett took 2nd Place for "Best Retailer Ad." Shaun Hebert, Jason Wall and Crystal Barrett took 2nd Place for "Best Online Advertising Single Ad, Static."
Lastly, the Weekly Citizen took 3rd Place for "Best Classified Section or Page" and 3rd Place for "Best Special Section, Advertising." Penny Martinez, Anna McVea and Crystal Barrett took 3rd Place for "Best Online Advertising Single Ad, Static."
