The Rotary Club of East Ascension hosted its annual Thanksgiving Luncheon for the ARC of East Ascension on Friday, complete with a traditional Thanksgiving fest.

More than 150 people were in attendance, including ARC members and their families, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Gonzales. ARC of EA marketing director, Sharon Morris, said community events such as the luncheon help members to mingle outside of their facility.

"They get to mingle with their other colleagues and other people from the community," Morris said. "This means the world to them. A lot of times they don't get to do this, get together on a one-on-one basis. Sometimes they only see each other coming in and out of the building."

The Rotary began serving Thanksgiving lunches for the Ascension organization nearly 10 years ago as a way to give back to community members.

"We had Rotary members in our club that were board members for COEA," said Rotarian Michael Buturla. "This just became an opportunity where we could partner with them and do this event for them so they could have a day to get out and enjoy themselves amongst friends."

The day included dancing, door giveaways from various organizations in Gonzales and a certificate of appreciation to the Rotary Club of East Ascension from ARC executive director, Norma Dukes.
