The Jambalaya Festival Association met on Oct. 17 at the new Jambalaya Festival Association Building on S. Francois Ave. in Gonzales to elect officers for the upcoming year and to update members on its ongoing activities.  Current President Wally Taillon was reelected to his post, along with Vice President Tammy Guillory. Taillon, a former World Champion Cook, has served as President for 15 years.

Everything is coming along nicely," Taillon said. "We were able to have our first meeting at the building, which allowed membership to get a first look at our new headquarters. We hope to have the flooring in and final touches completed by the end of the year.”

Taillon also mentioned looking for alternative space for the anticipated 50th anniversary festival.

We are working closely with the City of Gonzales and Mayor Arceneaux to determine options for our 50th festival location," he said. "The Gonzales Civic Center was damaged during the August flooding and has been deemed unusable. We will continue to work with the city during this time to make preparations for next year’s 50th annual festival held May 26-28, 2017.”

The JFA participates in numerous charitable and community events throughout the year in addition to hosting the annual Jambalaya Festival in May.  Its officers and board members face innumerable demands on their time and volunteer year-round in Ascension Parish.

Officers include 2006 World Champion Mike Gonzales who will continue to serve as Treasurer this year and 2012 Jambalaya Queen, Meredith Conger, will remain as Recording Secretary.  Vanessa Blair returns in the appointed position of Corresponding Secretary.

JFA Board Members re-elected are Brenda Taillon, Shane Martinez and Mike Berthelot.
