Nucor Steel buys land in St. James

Nucor Steel has begun purchasing property in St. James Parish for a proposed iron and steel facility.
The company bought nearly 890 acres for $16.3 million in the Convent area along the east bank of the Mississippi River.
Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project would create more than 1,250 direct permanent jobs with an annual payroll of nearly $95 million, plus benefits, and about $4 billion in capital investment.
