Staff reports

BATON ROUGE – Cox Communications announced that it has increased the speed of two of its high-speed Internet packages for customers in the Baton Rouge and Acadiana area markets.

Customers with Premier and Preferred Internet Service Packages will receive up to 33 percent speed increases effective immediately, at no additional charge. Speed increases will also be available for Cox Business Internet customers at that time. Customers do not need to take any action as part of this transition, as the process is seamless, the company announced.

“Cox is delivering on our commitment to bring advanced services and the best value to local residents,” said Jacqui Vines, regional vice president and general manager for Cox Baton Rouge and Acadiana markets. “The speed upgrade is automatic ensuring customers can enjoy the benefits immediately.”

With the enhancement, the Premier Internet Service Package base speed is up to 20 Mbps downstream (33 percent increase in speed over previous rate) and 1.5 Mbps upstream. With Cox PowerBoost, customers may reach 25 Mbps downstream (25 percent increase in speed) and 2 Mbps upstream. Preferred Internet Service Package’s base speed increases to 10 Mbps (11 percent increase) downstream and 768 Kbps upstream. With PowerBoost speeds could reach 13 Mbps downstream (8 percent increase) and 1 Mbps upstream.

Cox Greater Louisiana offers four Internet packages in all markets: Premier, Preferred, Value and Economy. All packages include access to e-mail via WebMail, personal WebSpace, Spam Blocker and a free McAfee security suite with parental controls, anti-spyware, anti-virus, firewall and pop-up blocker.
