Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre reports the arrest of 52-year-old Sheldon Sheppard, an Ascension Parish Government employee on theft charges.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Financial Crimes Unit began an investigation on Tuesday, March 12, after President Kenny Matassa turned over information discovered in an internal audit by the Parish Finance Department, which showed that Sheppard used his parish government issued fuel card for his personal vehicle use.

As the investigation continued, it was learned that Sheppard used approximately $2,800 worth of fuel purchases dating back to August 2018.

Sheppard was an employee with Ascension Parish Government for approximately 11 years assigned to the Public Works department.

He was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on March 18 and bonded out on a $5,000 bond set by Judge Leblanc.
