Twelve Essential Garden Hand Tools for Home Gardeners: March 12, 6:30 p.m., Galvez -- Having the right tools means all the difference in maintaining a healthy attractive garden. It is easy to get overwhelmed by the variety of tools available. Richard Babin, Ascension Parish Master Gardener, will guide us as to which tools are more essential than others. He will give us tips on proper care, cleaning, personal safety and storage of our gardening tools. To register, call the Galvez location at 622-3339.
Attracting More Wild Birds to your Backyard: March 19, 6:30 PM, Dutchtown -- Once you start to feed the wild birds, you will become addicted and will soon be wanting to attract as many different species as you can. Attracting birds to your yard also plays an important role in conservation and helps to provide balance to the ecosystem. Gina Periou, owner of Wild Birds Unlimited Nature Shop, will give us tips and advice on how to go about making sure your yard is set up in the best possible way to achieve this goal. She will explore types of feeders, foods, and habitats. To register, call the Dutchtown location at 673-8699.
Success in the Shade: April 9, 6:30 p.m., Gonzales -- Patricia Brussack, member of Board of Directors for the Georgia Hosta Society, has gardened on two acres of woodlands for decades. She will share the successes and the failures of this shade gardening endeavor. Plant selections, plant combinations as well as planting practices to increase the delights of the shady spots in the garden will be illustrated. Mrs. Brussack, a Hosta enthusiast, will also suggest Hosta cultivars that perform well even with the short dormancy periods of southern gardens. To register, call the Gonzales location at 647-3955.
Spring Plant Swap and Gardening Tips and Questions: April 23, 6:30 PM, Gonzales -- Do you have a list of gardening questions? This is your chance to finally get the answers you need. A panel of Master Gardeners will have gardening tips and answer any of your gardening questions. Then you will have an opportunity to participate in an old-fashioned tradition – a Plant Swap! Bring your labeled plants, cuttings, bulbs, or seeds to exchange with local gardeners. You will leave with lots of information as well as new plants for your garden. To register, call the Gonzales location at 647-3955.
