According to Sheriff Bobby Webre, detectives arrested 20-year-old Jalen Griffin for his involvement in the shooting at a residence in Bishop Woods subdivision that occurred on Wednesday, February 13.
The homeowner suffered gunshot wounds and is still listed in critical condition. The intruder succumbed to his injuries, he was later identified as 20-year-old Major Payton.
As the investigation continued, a second suspect was identified and arrested by a joint effort between the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana State Police Apprehension Task Force.
Jalen Griffin, of Baton Rouge, was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary with a weapon, illegal use of weapons, attempted first-degree murder, and second-degree murder.
He was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on Thursday, February 21, where no bond has been set.
