The garden tip of the month was to recycle or donate garden tools, pots and books that are no longer needed.

The Gonzales Garden Club met at the newly renovated St. Amant home of Dale Bowman on February 6 to share information about garden tools. Guest Speaker Advanced Master Gardener Richard Babin demonstrated how to choose, use and maintain a wide variety of shovels, trowels, rakes, cultivators, hoes, pruners and shears.

GGC Members Pam Fiegel, Janis Poche, Loretta Ramirez, and Sandy Stewart presented crescent–line floral designs. The horticultural hint was to water newly seeded vegetable and herb beds almost daily until seedlings come up, especially during cold, dry weather. The garden tip of the month was to recycle or donate garden tools, pots and books that are no longer needed.

The meeting was hosted by Members Dale Bowman, Gwen Heck, Barbara McCormick, Mary Jo Pohlig, Marilyn Rice and Dana Teepell. All members contributed to the salad bar luncheon by bringing hors d’oeuvres, fruit, greens, pasta and chicken salads, toppings, breads, and desserts. To end the day, members toured Bowman’s property to see her greenhouse, shady and sunny flowerbeds, and large vegetable gardens.
