Gonzales DWI Checkpoint
Gonzales Police Department, Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office and State Police will be manning a DWI checkpoint on September 27, 2018 from 8 p.m. until September 28, 2018 3 a.m. in the area of LA30. This is made possible through an LHSC grant.
Social Action Forum
The Ascension Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will sponsor a social action forum entitled "When We All Vote, We All Do Better" on Thursday, September 27 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The forum will be held at the St. Paul Baptist Church Fellowship Center located at 10438 Boudreaux Road, Gonzales, La. Information will be shared on how to become a registered voter, location of voting precincts, items on the November 6 election ballot and a breakdown of the six (6) proposed Louisiana Constitutional amendments. All proceeds will benefit the Ascension Parish 4-H Foundation to increase scholarships and programs. Orders are due October 24, 2018. River City Jazz
The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge and the River City Jazz Coalition are proud to open the second decade of the nationally renowned jazz concert series in Baton Rouge with featured artists John Scofield’s Combo 66. John Scofield’s Combo 66 opens this year’s season at the Manship Theatre on October 4, 2018 presented by Essential Federal Credit Union. Tickets to River City Jazz Masters shows can be purchased at the box office at the Manship Theatre or online at manshiptheatre.org.
Four Republican Women clubs will sponsor a Secretary of State Candidate Forum on Thursday, October 4th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Louisiana State Archives, 3851 Essen Lane in Baton Rouge. All Republican SOS Candidates have responded in the affirmative. On October 27-28 this family-oriented, fun-filled event offers guests the opportunity to learn about animals not normally seen in local pet stores. Breeder-vendors are always willing to teach. Throughout the event there will be seminars on animal-related topics by experts in the field of herpetology. The doors open to the general public at 10 a.m. on Saturday, closing at 5 p.m. On Sunday, the show hours are 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. At the door, tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 5-12, and children under 5 are admitted free. Capital Area Agency on Aging (CAAA) will host their annual health fair/expo on October 25 at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center. Over 850 seniors from over 13 parishes attended the event last year. New time of 4 p.m. Join us for our LAST Mommy & Me event! Wear your favorite costume and join us at Tanger Outlets Gonzales on the Tuesday, October 9, for an afternoon of family fun! Our FREE October event will be hosted near Shopper Services Suite 299, next to J. Crew, on Tuesday, October 9, from 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. Look for the Tanger Tent! This month's activity will feature a safety presentation and up-close vehicle visit hosted by our local police and fire department. Dutchtown Golf Fundraiser
The cheerleaders of Dutchtown High School announce they will be hosting a golf tournament fundraiser at Santa Maria Golf Course on Monday October 15, 2018. The junior varsity and varsity cheerleaders will be raising money for their upcoming trip to The High School Cheerleading Championships in ESPN’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla. Cheerleaders are seeking local business and community members to sponsor and play in their first ever golf tournament. Players will experience a fun event with plenty of freebies and prizes. Ascension Council on Aging Membership Drive
The Ascension Council on Aging is holding its annual membership drive until October 1, 2018. Membership in the council is open without restrictions to parish residents who have reached the age of majority. There is no fee for membership. Persons interested in the problems and concerns of the elderly and wishing to serve in some capacity may apply at 101 Bocage Drive in Donaldsonville and 526 South Irma Boulevard in Gonzales. Dr. Louis LeFebvre at Main Street Dental Care in Gonzales, La. is participating in Freedom Day USA on October 11. This day is designed to honor and help our military by offering free dental services to current and retired military personnel, as well as their immediate family. In addition to offering our services we are asking businesses around our community to donate items (i.e. gift cards, items for raffles, food/drink to enjoy in office while waiting) to make this a great experience for the patients.
