"Our service-learning project that we plan to focus on this year is 'Real life superheroes' and 'Serving those who serve us,' which pertains to local police force."

Opening doors for children has never been easier when they're involved with the 4-H organization.

Ascension 4-H focuses on leadership, meeting people you don't know, and coming out of your shell. At the same time, they also host service projects, fundraisers, and other fun events. The organization is open to 4-H'ers from 7th-12th grade. This is a great opportunity for children to learn how to network, communicate, and open doors for futures in their careers.

They began the meeting by letting Caitlin Marquis, Victoria Buckland, and Kinslei Scroggs share the experience they had from their recent trip to Washington, D.C. for the Citizenship Washington Focus. This is a week long program for the youth in the organization, and only a certain amount get to go. The next trip during the summer of 2019 will be during the week of the Fourth of July. What better way to celebrate America than in our nation's capital?

The girls began their first day by experiencing delegation. They also got the opportunity to watch a performance of Mamma Mia! at Toby's Dinner & Show. Another great site to see was Mount Vernon, and they all thought it was a really cool experience since George Washington is buried there.

Camille Brady, who is part of the 4-H Youth Development, went on to run the rest of the meeting, and said, "Our service-learning project that we plan to focus on this year is 'Real life superheroes' and 'Serving those who serve us,' which pertains to local police force. So, for something like the 'Boo and the Badge' event in October, all of the 4-H'ers will be wearing superhero attire."

Other events they'll be having includes a costume contest at their third meeting in October, National 4-H week, a fundraiser Glow Dance in November, and a Christmas event in December.

There is a ten dollar yearly enrollment fee, which helps provide snacks and other products provided at the meetings.
