The Spartan/Gator Shout Out began in 1999 when Jody Elisar and his brother Todd, both St. Amant High School alumni, looked to start an event to raise money for both schools while also boosting the spirit of the community leading into the annual contest.
The Spartan/Gator Club delivered another $20,000.00 per school this week from the 2017 Spartan / Gator Shout Event, stated event Coordinator James E. LeBlanc.
The Spartan/Gator Shout Out began in 1999 when Jody Elisar and his brother Todd, both St. Amant High School alumni, looked to start an event to raise money for both schools while also boosting the spirit of the community leading into the annual contest. The Elisar’s met with co-founder James “Stump” Marchand and his brother Luke, both East Ascension High School alumni, and the Shout Out event came from those meetings, stated LeBlanc.
The week-long celebration began with a bass tournament, golf tournament and horse show competition. On the day before the game, the two schools would meet to cook large amounts of jambalaya during the day, stated LeBlanc.
Later that afternoon, thousands of fans for both teams would gather in the parking lot of Dalton’s restaurant to listen to music and speeches from both teams’ head coaches before the back-and-forth shouting match began. A decibel meter was used to determine the winning school, which would receive the “spirit stick” and keep it until the next year’s event. This event would go on from 1999 to 2006, stated LeBlanc.
After a two-year break, the event was brought back in 2008 by James E. LeBlanc, Alan Marrero & Jose Boriel from St. Amant and Ralph Delatte and Tommy Trahan of EA. Since the comeback year in 2008, so many great people and local business have join the team to raise money for these two schools, stated LeBlanc. The St. Amant Team is still lead by James E. LeBlanc and the East Ascension Team is now lead by Gennia Baye.
We continue to be blessed on both sides of the field to raise much needed funds for these two Ascension High Schools, who both have 22 sports in their programs, stated LeBlanc.
From (2008-2017) The Spartan/Gator Shout Out Committee has delivered $150,000.00 to each school and raised more than $300,000.00 for the committee, stated LeBlanc. All money raised from local sponsorships goes right back into both programs, stated LeBlanc.
Words cannot describe how much this money has meant to our program, stated Athletic Director David Oliver of the St. Amant Gators. Year after year, this committee continues to deliver results to both programs, and it means so much to our 22 sports here in Gator Nation, stated Oliver.
This committee is compassionate, dependable and loyalty to the Spartans and Gators, stated Athletic Director Darnell Lee of the East Ascension Spartans. They continue to work hard and dedicate their efforts to supporting all 22 sports at both High Schools, stated Lee.
Our mission has never changed from day one, “Two Communities Becoming One In Supporting Our Youth”, stated LeBlanc.
