COA Spring Fling

Mark your calendars! The Ascension Council on Aging will host its annual “Spring Fling” Easter Party on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at the Gonzales Senior Center on Irma Boulevard. Festivities will begin at 9:30 a.m. Contests will be held for the prettiest and most creative hats in the Easter Parade. Prizes will be given to the winners. So get busy now working on those special bonnets! And don’t forget about the COA’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt, always an exciting and fun-filled event! Lunch will be served at noon. Parish seniors 60 and above are encouraged to come out and join the fun! Those planning to attend must call to make a lunch reservation by Friday, March 23 rd , so get hoppin’! COA Senior Prom

Ascension Council on Aging will be presenting its Ninth Annual Senior Prom on Sunday, April 8, from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. It will be held at the KC Hall on South Irma Boulevard, and tickets will be $5.00 for COA participants and $10.00 for the general public 60 years and over. White Oak Easter Brunch

On Sunday, April 1, Chef John Folse and White Oak Plantation will celebrate the season with an eggs-traordinary Easter Sunday Brunch Buffet with seatings at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Kids will have their own buffet as well as Easter egg hunts at 1 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. and a bunny petting zoo. Families are invited to stroll White Oak Plantation’s gardens and grounds to take family photos. White Oak Plantation’s Easter Brunch Buffet is $59.95 for adults and $19.95 for children ages six to 12. Northwestern State Local Honors

The Northwestern State University Chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta welcomed 233 new members at the annual induction ceremony on March 25. Alpha Lambda Delta recognizes the best and brightest members of the nation’s first-year college students. Students in Alpha Lambda Delta must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 after their first semester of full-time enrollment at Northwestern State. From Gonzales, Bailee Ramey was welcomed. From Prairieville, Bailey Mohler, Kaylon Wood, and Sarah Makin were also honored.

Louisiana Sports Festival

Phi Kappa Phi Inductee

Lauren Jackson of Gonzales was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Jackson is pursuing a degree in Biological Science at Louisiana State University. Jackson is among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter.
