by Barbara Ehrenreich

April 11-22, 2018
Reilly Theatre, Tower Drive
The LSU School of Theatre brings to stage on of the most fascinating and enlightening books of the last twenty years. Barbara Ehrenreich’s bestseller “Nickel and Dimed, or (Not) Getting by in America” becomes the fast paced whirlwind hit play at the Reilly Theatre on the LSU campus April 11-22.
Can a middle-aged, middle-class woman survive, when she suddenly is making beds all day in a hotel and living on $7 an hour? Maybe. But one $7-an- hour job won’t pay the rent: she’ll have to do back-to- back shifts, as a chambermaid and a waitress. This isn’t the first surprise for famed author Barbara Ehrenreich, who set out to research low-wage life firsthand, confident she was prepared for the worst. Joan Holden’s stage adaptation is a focused comic epic shadowed with tragedy.
"Penetrating clarity and sharp, illuminating humor…succeeds beautifully in creating the wearying reality of dead-end jobs and the people trapped in them."
