The Arc of East Ascension held their first Drug Awareness Walk on Oct. 28 in recognition of drug safety and awareness.
Detectives from the Gonzales Police Department were present to educate those in attendance of the dangers of drugs, how to say no to them and provided pictures of what popular drugs look like.
The coordinator of the walk, Esther Dorsey, said the purpose of the event was to help individuals with disabilities understand about the negative effects of drugs and of the different types of drugs available.
"[Gonzales Police Department] taught them how to call the police and how to say no to drugs," Dorsey said. "The main drug out here is Heroin and they showed them how Heroin looked and how to say no to it."
