A lunch was held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Prairieville on Oct. 19, to honor the senior citizens in Ascension Parish. The annual Senior Citizen Banquet is sponsored by the St. John the Evangelist Knights of Columbus and the St. John Ladies Altar Society.

There were about 100 attendees including invited guests from Azalea Estates Assisted Living, Ascension Oaks Center, Gonzales Health Care, Magnolia Assisted Living as well as parishioners from St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church. Lunch was prepared by Gonzales Jambalaya Festival 4-time Golden Paddle winner Byron Gautreau and his KC assistant cooks. Music was provided again this year by Hoyt Cutie. As in the past, the Gonzales Lion's Club made a generous donation showing their support for the senior citizens in our community. Private gifts were also received from the Parish of Gonzales and the Oubre family.

Door prizes were provided by many merchants in the Ascension Parish and surrounding areas.
