St. John Primary and St. Theresa Middle are hosting their annual fall fair, Festival of Friends, the first weekend of October, bringing a weekend full of food, games and entertainment for the whole family. The community event features various rides, games, face painting, crafts, a used book sale and music from DJ Mike Waguespack.
Like all great fairs in Ascension, the event also includes a mini-pot jambalaya cook-off on Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. The three divisions consists of pre-k to third grade, fourth through eighth grade and an alumni division. Entry for the cook-off is $15 per cook and forms can be picked up at St. Theresa Middle School's office at 212 E. New River St., Gonzales.
Though admission is free to attend the fair, ticket purchase for rides is required. There will be individual tickets, a day pass or weekend pass available. Proceeds from the fair will be given back to the school to help with education costs, said Administrative Secretary Dayna Sanchez.
"I think it the fair continues to be a success because of the families," Sanchez said. "We really have a family atmosphere and it's a good chance for our families to visit with each other and to get to know one another and to come out and support our schools."
The Festival of Friends will be held Sept. 30 from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information contact the school at (225) 647-2803.
