PRAIRIEVILLE – Shortly after 9 p.m. on Sept. 9, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash on U.S. 61 at the intersection of La. 73 in Prairieville. The crash took the life of 43-year-old Robert Edwards of Gonzales.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Edwards was traveling southbound on U.S. 61 in a 2008 Ford F-250. At the same time, 20-year-old Keshawn Marshall was also traveling southbound on U.S. 61 in a 2008 Nissan Altima ahead of Edwards. For unknown reasons, Edwards’ vehicle struck the right rear side of Marshall’s vehicle. The impact caused Marshall’s vehicle to rotate clockwise and run off the right side of the roadway. Edwards’ vehicle began to overturn multiple times. Edwards was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from his vehicle.

Edwards sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office. It is unknown if Edwards was impaired at the time of the crash but a toxicology sample will be taken for analysis. Marshall was properly restrained at the time of the crash and was not injured; he was given a chemical breath test for intoxication and was not impaired.
