To the citizens of Ascension Parish,

As a result of the recent historic flooding and the Governor’s natural disaster area, La. R.S. 47:1978.1 requires our office to reassess all flood damaged homes and businesses for the 2016 tax roll. Since last Friday, we have had teams in the field every day searching for flood damaged properties on every road in the parish. As of today, 90 percent of our field work has been completed and I anticipate all field work to be completed by Friday except for the few known flood areas that still retain floodwaters and access to review the damage is limited.

Your Assessor’s Office has a great team to handle this extraordinary job rapidly, efficiently and professionally. Our office has already begun the reassessment of flood damaged property derived from field work over the past weekend but the sheer mass of field work returned is projected to take several weeks to process in our assessment system. Once all of our work has been completed, we will publish all addresses we discovered from our field work on our website at AscensionAssessor.com. This address publication will give you the opportunity to see if we already identified your flood damaged house or business.

If you still feel the need to report your flood damaged house or business prior to our address publication on our website, you may call our office at (225) 647-8182 or (225) 473-9239 or you may email us at Flood@AscensionAssessor.com. All we need is your name, address, and phone number and we will take it from there.

As your Assessor we are doing everything possible to lessen this year's tax liability to your flood damaged home or business.

Sincerely,

M.J. “Mert” Smiley, Jr., CLA

Ascension Parish Assessor
