Ascension Public Schools will be closed for both students and employees for the remainder of the week due to the impacts of flooding in our parish. Essential employees are asked to remain on call should assistance be needed as flood waters recede.

"This has certainly been a trying time for us all," said Ascension Public Schools Superintendent A. Denise Graves. "We are in rescue and response mode as this is still an active event with water continuing to rise in some areas. Our number one priority is the safety and security of our people."

Ascension Parish has been added to the Louisiana flooding declaration by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). If you have been affected by the flooding, you can apply for assistance by visiting https://www.disasterassistance.gov/.

For those looking to volunteer, the Red Cross has put out a call for certified teachers to help coordinate activities for children being housed at the Lamar Dixon shelter. If you are available to volunteer, you can either call (225) 450-1024 or report to the Trademark Building at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center. You must either bring a copy of your certification or a school ID badge. They also need donations of educational activities for kids such as books, art supplies and games.
