DONALDSONVILLE – The Ascension Parish council meeting was held on Dec. 3. Absent from the meeting was Councilmen Kent Schexnaydre and Benny Johnson. 

     The meeting commenced with a presentation from Parish President Tommy Martinez, who gave a certificate of recognition to the Ascension Catholic High School Cross Country team for their state championship win. 

     Martinez welcomed President elect Kenny Matassa, who announced the members of his transition team. President-elect Matassa said his transition team members include local businessman Bill Arcement, current Parish CAO Ken Dawson, state Rep. Johnny Berthelot, state Rep. Ed Price, Gonzales City Engineer Jackie Baumann, professional engineer Derick Murphy, Parish Councilman Chris Loar, local businessman Cliff Ourso and local business administrator Donna Gaignard. 

     “I want to commend the Council on the great job they’ve done in the past and we look forward to building on that success in the future,” President-elect Matassa said.

     President-elect Matassa also announced that when he takes office on Jan. 4, he wants to retain Chief Administrative Officer Ken Dawson.

     Dawson has been overseeing several of the Parish’s larger projects, including a regional sewage treatment system. Under the Parish Home Rule Charter, the parish president’s choice for CAO must be ratified by at least a majority of the Parish Council

     Current Parish President Martinez announced that the Governmental Complex's ribbon cutting is scheduled for Dec. 17 at 10:30 a.m.

     The council approved a motion to accept the recommendation of the Zoning and Planning Commission to amend the Ascension Parish Zoning Map from rural to mixed use corridor in regards to a section of the Price Leblanc property located north side of La. 30 for Smith Tank and Steel Real Estate. 

     Two ordinances were introduced; an ordinance that adds revisions to the zoning tables in the Unified Land Development Code, Appendix 1, and another that amends the Ascension Parish Code of Ordinances regarding Chapter 13, Article I, Section 13-7 of film permits. 

     Three ordinances were passed; an ordinance to amend the Ascension Parish Zoning Map from conservation to light industrial on the 37.957 acres of the Hilton Haydel property located on S. St. Landry Road, south of La. 30., a ordinance to revise the Drainage Regulations in the Unified Land Development Code regarding section 17, Design Criteria, and another to revise the subdivision regulations in the Unified Land Development Code regarding Family Partitions.
