Program brings 40 Canine teams to Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office hosted an arson dog training program Oct. 13 and 14 at the St. George Training Facility.

The training and re-ertification program, sponsored by State Farm, welcomed 40 Accelerant Detection Canine Teams, coming from as far as Hawaii and Canada.

Each team performed demonstrations in a simulated fire scene at the training facility, locating drops of accelerant such as lighter fluid, gasoline, and kerosine.

The State Farm Arson Dog Program started in 1993, placing over 350 rescued dogs to work in 44 states, three Canadian provinces, and the District of Columbia with law enforcement officers and firefighters.
