Two adults and four children did make it to safety before the fire spread.

GONZALES –  On Sept. 12, at 6:30 a.m., City of Gonzales firefighters were dispatched to a carport fire at 1619 South Augusta St. Upon arriving at the scene only minutes later, it was found that the fire had spread to the roof of the residence.

     Firefighters worked for 45 minutes to bring the flames under control, but due to the extensive damage, the home, along with a vehicle in the carport area, were declared as total losses.

     Two adults and four children did make it to safety before the fire spread.

     The fire is under investigation, and the family is seeking refuge at the Ascension Fire House while receiving Red Cross assistance.
