Ten (10) projects pushed Ascension Parish, Louisiana above the $1 billion investment level in announced new and expanding business and industry during calendar year 2011.  Five (5) attraction and five (5) expansion projects were included in the mix that will create an estimated 502 new jobs and generate more than $23 million in new annual payrolls in the Parish.


Ten (10) projects pushed Ascension Parish, Louisiana above the $1 billion investment level in announced new and expanding business and industry during calendar year 2011.  Five (5) attraction and five (5) expansion projects were included in the mix that will create an estimated 502 new jobs and generate more than $23 million in new annual payrolls in the Parish.
 
The attraction projects included an announcement by Impala Warehousing, LLC for a new bulk materials handling terminal on the Mississippi River.  A wholly owned subsidiary of Netherlands based Trafigura AG;  Impala is expected to generate 100 direct jobs and at least the same number of additional jobs among numerous contract service providers. The facility will primarily handle the export of coal via deed draft ships and barges.
 
Major expansion announcements included Williams Company’s commitment to increase its production of ethylene, BASF’s construction of a new surfactants plant at its Ascension Parish complex, Air Liquide Corporation’s expansion of its air separation capacity for the production of nitrogen and argon and the re-opening of Ormet Corporation’s alumina manufacturing facility which was idled in December 2006.

2005 under the provisions of Chapter 27, Part I of Title 35 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950 as amended and federally chartered under I.R.S. Code 501 (C)(6), AEDC is a private nonprofit corporation pursuant to the Louisiana Nonprofit Corporation Law, Chapter 2 of Title 12 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes as amended.
 
AEDC is governed by a ten (10) member Board of Directors. These ten members serve without compensation and are appointed for three (3) year terms by the following entities:
 
-The Ascension Chamber of Commerce: Four Members
-The Ascension Parish Council: Two Voting Members & Two Non-Voting Members
-The Ascension Parish President: One Voting Member
-The City of Gonzales Council: One Non-Voting Member
