East Ascension, fresh off of its No. 9 ranking in the first LSWA Top 10 basketball poll of the season, showed fans – and Dutchtown – why they deserved that spot.

The Spartans (17-8, 2-0 in 5-5A) amassed 41 points in the second half to defeat the visiting Griffins 67-42 in District 5-5A action Tuesday.

Dutchtown slipped 6-11 for the season and 0-2 in district fare.

DeAundre Smith led the Spartan attack with 18 points, including a pair of three-point shots. He scored 10 of the 20 points EAHS posted in the third quarter.

Teammate Javaughn Williams bucketed 12 points, including two shots from three-point range.

Jamal Steward, Devonte Foster and Johnpaul Willams each netted eight points.

Erin Bringier led Dutchtown with 10 points. The sophomore made his best showing in the fourth quarter, when he bagged two three-point shots.

Dutchtown held East Ascension to an 11-10 lead at the end of the first. The Griffins trailed by four points at the half.

The Spartans broke loose for 20 points in the third quarter.

EAHS finished 8-for-14 at the free-throw mark.

East Ascension visits Catholic, Dutctown travels to Woodlawn and St. Amant entertains McKinley tonight.
In girls action, Woodlawn visits Dutchtown on Thursday. East Ascension hosts St. Joseph’s Academy and St. Amant heads to McKinley.
