A man, Dustan Reine, 24, of Maurepas, was killed early Monday morning, as his 2002 Dodge pickup crashed west of Diversion?Canal along Hwy. 22, shortly after 2 a.m.

Louisiana State Police Troop A began an investigation into a single vehicle crash on Monday morning.

Troopers’ preliminary investigation revealed that the truck was traveling east on Hwy. 22 when it entered a right-hand curve and ran off the roadway to the left.

The pickup began to rotate clockwise and struck two trees with its left rear fender.

It then began to rotate the opposite direction as it overturned.

The pickup rolled several times before coming to rest on the driver’s side, partially submerged in a bayou.  Reine was not restrained when the crash occurred, and was ejected and suffered fatal injuries.

Troopers suspect impairment to have been a factor in the crash and have submitted a sample of the driver’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.

Other agencies responding to the scene were the St. Amant Fire and EMS Squads, St. Amant Water Rescue Team, and the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.
