Mercy Ships is a global charity that operates an 80 bed hospital ship with six surgical suites, a CAT scan, ICU, specialized laboratories, and technology to consult with Western Doctors on patient care. With the help of over 460 volunteer crew members the Mercy Ship travels to many developing nations around the globe. Mercy Ships have provided more than 347,000 operations such as cleft lip and palate, cataract removal, straightening of crossed eyes, orthopedic and facial reconstruction due to tumors and other conditions that if left untreated can become detrimental or even life threatening. The ship’s volunteer crew has also completed training of over 16,000 local health care workers in developing nations who have in turn trained multiple thousands in primary health care. It is estimated that Mercy Ships services have impacted over 2.5 million people from community development projects focusing on water, sanitation, education, infrastructure development and agriculture.
