The Slalom Way Drive entrance into the Lakes at Ascension Crossing Subdivision will be permanently closed beginning Wednesday, Nov. 24, the Ascension Parish Department of Public Works announced.

Slalom Way Drive is one of three streets that enter the subdivision located off  Hwy 621 near the intersection of Hwy 73.  The other entrances are Forest Lawn Drive and Lakeway Drive.

Subdivision residents previously raised concerns about motorists speeding through their neighborhood as a bypass during times of peak traffic volume on Hwy 621.

Officials said the Lakes at Ascension Crossing Subdivision Homeowners Association presented a petition signed by an overwhelming majority of residents calling for the closure to reduce the amount of non-resident traffic in their neighborhood.

The Ascension Parish Council approved an ordinance on Oct. 7 closing the street entrance following the conclusion of hearings on the matter.

A 250-square foot section of the Slalom Way Drive entrance will be closed, according to the ordinance.
