East Ascension has battled through adversity through the first three district games.

The Spartans meet Destrehan Friday, a team that has struggled this season to a 2-6 record so far.

East Ascension (4-4, 0-3) and Destrehan (2-6, 0-3) are both looking to breakthrough for a district win.

The Spartans suffered a 45-17 defeat last week to Ascension Parish rival St. Amant (4-4, 1-2) at the Pit.

East Ascension played without usual starter Emerson Foster at quarterback. Deandrus Ennis got the nod. He ran for a touchdown and passed for another to Randell Williams.

The Spartans also spread the carries around as Jarmarcus Jarvis, Michael Sparrow and Sione Palelei shared running duties. Jarvis led the way with 92 of the Spartans’ 206 rushing yards. He ranks among the area’s leaders with nine touchdowns on the season.

Another bright spot for the Spartans has been kicking specialist Michael Stafford. He currently stands among the best in the area in punting with a 40.6 yard average. He also kicked a 24-yard field goal against St. Amant and added a pair of extra points.

Destrehan has faced the top three teams in the district so far this season. East St. John, Hahnville and Dutchtown have all claimed wins over Destrehan.
