St. Amant ended its district drought with a 45-17 victory over East Ascension Friday night.

St. Amant (4-4, 1-2), playing its final home game of the regular season, pulled away after a 24-point second quarter.

“We’ve been close to breaking through for a district win,”?St. Amant head coach David Oliver said. “This was great coming against a rival.”

Senior quarterback Jaylin LeBlanc led the Gators with 163 rushing yards and two touchdowns of 80 and 4 yards.

Dalton Alexander caught touchdown passes of 52 and 69 yards. Jacob Morales threw the first, while LeBlanc completed the last. Alexander finished with three catches for 133 yards.

East Ascension (4-4, 0-3) compiled 206 rushing yards. Jarmarcus Jarvis led the Spartans with 92 yards on eight carries.

Spartans quarterback Deandrus Ennis threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Randell?Williams. Ennis also ran for a 1-yard score.

St. Amant collected three interceptions, including one Landon Henry returned 37 yards for a touchdown.

East Ascension had “one of those weeks,” head coach John Lambert said. Following their game against East St. John, the team suffered six concussions. Two offensive linemen didn’t practice and others weren’t cleared until the night before the game.

The Gators opened the scoring when Morales started around the right end, but stopped and threw a pass to Alexander, who dashed into the end zone.

East Ascension answered with a 24-yard field goal by Michael Stafford.

On the ensuing drive, LeBlanc took an option left keeper for an 80-yard touchdown. Justin Manton kicked the extra point, giving the Gators a 14-3 lead.

The St. Amant defense held on a fourth-and-1, then the offense put together a touchdown drive. Cameron Morris ran for 40 yards on the possession, including the 1-yard score.

St. Amant began to pull away when LeBlanc connected with Alexander for the 69-yard touchdown. Manton added a 35-yard field goal.
