It took nine innings to decide the Saturday match of District 6-5A rivals St. Amant and East Ascension.

The Gators drove in a pair of runs in the ninth to propel them to an 8-6 win over the Spartans.

St. Amant (13-9) and East Ascension (10-11, 0-3) relied on several different pitchers in the back-and-forth game.

The teams went into extra innings after playing to a 6-6 tie at the end of the seventh.

East Ascension will continue district competition at Destrehan Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Spartans will host Dutchtown Thursday at 6 p.m.

St. Amant will host Hahnville Tuesday at 4 p.m. and Destrehan Thursday at 4 p.m.
