BATON ROUGE – A pair of Ascension Parish players have been making plays for the No. 13 LSU?softball team this season.
Lauren Capello of Prairieville and Allison Falcon of Donaldsonville both have made key contributions as the Tigers have enjoyed a school-record 22-game winning streak.
Falcon, an LSU?freshman utility player, was a softball and basketball standout at Ascension Catholic.
Capello, a sophomore who plays third and first base for the Tigers, previously starred at Dutchtown, St. Amant and East Ascension.
LSU (27-4) shut out Nicholls State (14-9) 7-0 Tuesday night at Tiger Park. Falcon reached base and scored in all three of her plate appearances, compiling two hits and a walk for the game.
Capello, in the lineup as a pinch hitter, drew a four-pitch walk that set up Tiffany Shaw to score.
In the fifth inning, Falcon hit a single to help the Tigers load the bases. She also scored a run after reaching on a single.
“Everybody’s hitting aggressively and they’re making spectacular plays in the infield,”?Coach Yvette Girouard said. “We’re on a roll right now and we’re going to keep that going.”
