Philippians Church to hold 6-hours of miracles

Philippians Church will have 6-hours of miracles Wed., Dec. 31 from 7 p.m. until. Food will be served along with a bonfire and firework display. The new location for Philippians Church is 38390 Hwy. 42 in Prairieville. Families are invited to come fellowship with the Philippians Church family. Account set up for local boy burned over 50 percent of body

Caydan Cockerham, 8, was severely burned over 50 percent of his body Dec. 17. He is the son of Christy Cockerham and is a student at Duplessis.
He will have to stay at the LSU?Medical Shriner’s Hospital in Lafayette until after Easter and will need extensive skin grafts and reconstructive surgeries.
An account has been set up to help his family with hospital bills and physical therapy he will have to undergo.
“Any contribution, no matter how large or small will be greatly appreciated,” said a family spokesperson.

First Gonzales inauguration in 25 years to be held Jan. 2

The first inauguration in 25 years for the City of Gonzales  will be held Jan. 2 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Gonzales Civic Center.
New officials to be sworn in will be Barney Arceneaux (mayor), Sherman Jackson (chief of police), Kirk Boudreaux, Johnny Cagnolatti, Terance Irvin, Kenny Matassa, and Ronald Waguespack (councilmen) and John Hebert (justice of the peace).

Free Computer Training at the Library

Ascension Parish Library offers the following free computer training seminars during December.  In Gonzales:   Dec. 29 – Introduction to Microsoft Publisher, 6 p.m.; Dec. 30 – Job Searching on the Internet, 10 a.m. Seminars are free and open to the public and registration is not required. Pastor to be honored with celebration

The public is invited to attend the celebration of a year of service honoring Pastor Graylin Burl Sr., Dec. 28, during the 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. worship service, at the Little Zion Baptist Church, 2444 West Orice Roth Road, Gonzales.
The speaker for the 8 a.m. service is Rev. Ferdinand Gaines, pastor of Antioch Community Baptist Church, Gramercy, and for the 2 p.m. service, Rev. Reginald Burl, pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Empire.

DTHS to hosts Parish Financial Aid Workshop

Dutchtown High School will host a Parish Financial Aid Workshop for Ascension Parish high school juniors, seniors and their parents on Jan. 12, at 7 p.m. in the school cafetorium. A representative from the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance will assist participants in completing the free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for all federal and state programs including TOPS. Also, loan officers from area banks will be available to give you information regarding student loans.

Vote for your favorite book at the library

The Ascension Parish Library needs you to vote in this year’s Louisiana Young Reader’s Choice Award. The Louisiana Young Reader’s Choice Award was established by the State Library of Louisiana to find out what books you like the best.
Fifteen titles have been nominated in two reading categories: books for third to fifth graders and books for sixth to eighth graders. The list includes popular books by award-winning authors. Students are invited to visit the Ascension Parish Library to vote for their favorite title. Children who wish to vote must read at least three of the nominated titles for their grade level before voting.  Votes must be submitted by Jan. 23 to be counted.
