ST. AMANT - St. Amant’s Dana Songe scored an inside goal on an assist from Erica Arnold with under two minutes left in the first half to cut the Lady Gators’ deficit to 3-1, but Terrebonne got a header to break plane with 12 minutes remaining on way to a 5-1 non-district victory Tuesday night at the Pit.

“We came out pretty flat tonight,” St. Amant head coach Jason Naquin said. “I thought we gave them an opening. We possessed the ball very well and I thought we were controlling the tempo of the game and were outworking them offensively. We just couldn’t put the ball in the net. They didn’t give us great shooting opportunities.”

ST.

Ana Contreras put Terrebonne ahead in the early minutes before Jessica Herradon’s goal off a rebound made it 2-0 with nine minutes remaining in the first half.

“That first goal really gives you that boost of confidence to push forward,” Terrebonne head coach Ginny Lottinger said.

Terrebonne goal keeper Brooke Pellegrin snagged Joleigh Hartman’s shot before her corner kick was headed out of bounds. Herradon’s second goal came on a shot over St. Amant goalie Samantha Jackson with just over two minutes to play.

With time winding down, Arnold found Songe inside for a chip shot.

“You could tell that after half-time, they were really pumped up because they started beating us to every ball,” Lottinger said. “We had to regroup.”

Arnold’s driving shot was corralled by Pellegrin to open the second half before Songe’s consecutive shots at goal. Hartman’s corner kick headed by Lexi Crews was caught by Pellegrin before her free kick was wide left.

“Even though we were controlling the pace most of the second half, we were still flat,” Naquin said. “We just didn’t show any urgency tonight although I think we possessed the ball better than we have ever had. We have some things to figure out. Defense was extremely solid. I thought we made a total of four mistakes and they scored on all four of them.”

The defining goal came on Contreras header off Herradon’s corner kick.

“That is the one that finally put it away,” Lottinger said. “Until then, I still felt like they were in the game. After we got that header, I felt like we had sealed the deal.”
Britni Crone scored the final goal for Terrebonne.

St. Amant defeated Denham Springs Monday morning 9-0.

Arnold led the Lady Gators with four goals, while Songe and Cindy Gutierrez each had two and Hartman provided one.
