With the assistance of Ascension Parish Sheriff’s river patrol officers, officials with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and Fire Protection District No. 9 in Livingston Parish found the body of a man who apparently drowned in the Amite River  Diversion Canal Saturday.


ST. AMANT - With the assistance of Ascension Parish Sheriff’s river patrol officers, officials with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and Fire Protection District No. 9 in Livingston Parish found the body of a man who apparently drowned in the Amite River  Diversion Canal Saturday.

Sunday, Livingston Parish Sheriff’s officials identified the drowning victim as 25-year old Jose Guadalupe of Livingston Parish.

The incident occurred approximately one mile downstream of the Hwy. 22 bridge.
Officials believe Guadalupe drowned at around 1:30 p.m. Saturday after jumping into the river to save a friend in danger, Perry Rushing with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office said. Crews discovered Guadalupe’s body at around 7 p.m. Saturday evening.
