Parish residents wishing to bring select items for recycling can do so Saturday, Aug. 2, as The Recycling Foundation, Inc., Wal-Mart, Ascension Parish Goverment and Keep Ascension Beautiful will host the 2008 Recycling Roadshow.


Parish residents wishing to bring select items for recycling can do so Saturday, Aug. 2, as The Recycling Foundation, Inc., Wal-Mart, Ascension Parish Goverment and Keep Ascension Beautiful will host the 2008 Recycling Roadshow.

The event will take place at the Wal-Mart Supercenter location in Prairieville, at the corner of Ariline Highway and Old Perkins Road, Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Items that will be accepted for recycling include:

• Newspapers, magazines, cataloges, phone books and paperback books. Do not bring wet paper, rubber bands or plastic wrappings.

• Scrap paper such as junk mail, white or colored paper or envelopes. Do not bring photographs or carbon paper.

• Paaper milk cartons or juice boxes. Do not bring waxy frozen food packaging, take-out food containers or pizza boxes.
• Cardboard products such as detergent boxes, 12-pack drink cartons and flattened cardboard. Do not bring waxed cardboard, plastic or foil linings.

• Metals such as aluminum, tin or bimetal cans and metal lids. Do not bring non-food metal items, aerosol cans or wire hangers.

• Plastics such as food or drink containers with the numbers 1 or 7 inside the triple arrow recycling logo, household cleaner bottles, bleach and detergent bottles or perscription medication bottles. Do not bring plastic bags, hangers, plastic caps or lids, six-pack drink rings or chemical containers.

Other items that will not be accepted include plastic bags; household garbage; wood waste or yard trimmings; building materials; automobile tires; hazardous items such as electronics, batteries, paint, chiemicals, oil or oil filters; soiled papers or tissues or diapers.
