The Ascension Parish area lies between two cities recently named as the top places for murders per capita, according to FBI statistics.
New Orleans once again took the top spot on the list. New Orleans had the highest per capita murder rate in the United States with 64 murders per 100,000 people in 2008.
Baton Rouge ranked seventh on the list with 30 murders per 100,000.
St. Louis ranked second with 47 murders per 100,000 people.
