ST. AMANT – Parkview Baptist scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to push past Pit Stop Exxon 3-1 Monday evening in summer Metro League play at St. Amant’s Gator Park.
Justin Manton lasted four innings for St. Amant-based Pit Stop surrendering just one run on two hits and one walk while striking out five. Jacob Morales took the loss in two innings of relief giving up two runs on one hit and one walk while striking out three. Derrick Savoy also pitched two innings of scoreless relief giving up two hits and striking out one.
Manton retired the first eight batters he faced striking out three in the third inning after giving up a two-out walk.
Chris Boyter singled with one out in the bottom of the first inning but was left stranded. Daniel St. Pierre singled with two outs in the second inning and stole second and third before Stephen Cardinale reached on catcher interference and Britton Day walked to load the bases but Task Plauche struckout to end the inning.
Boyter was hit to open the bottom of the third inning and scored the first run of the contest when Tyler Guillory reached on an error two outs later. Manton surrendered a solo home run in the fourth that knotted it up 1-1.
Parkview Baptist threatened in the sixth but it wasn’t until the eighth inning that they pushed ahead and Pit Stop failed to answer in the bottom half despite a two-out infield single from Guillory.
Pit Stop played five games this past weekend in Monroe.
Exxon opened the tournament Friday giving up four runs in the bottom of the sixth falling to West Monroe 5-0. Manton pitched five innings giving up one run on three hits and three walks while striking out six. In 1/3 innings of relief, Savoy surrendered four runs on three hits and two walks before Matt Kroll pitched the last 2/3 innings.
Pit Stop picked up four hits as Jacob Templet doubled and Savoy, Tony Dison and Tyler Gonzales each singled.
Exxon surrendered five runs in the bottom of the first inning on three errors on way to a 5-1 loss to East Beuregard Saturday morning. Jordan Bond surrendered five hits and three walks while striking out two over five innings. Tanner Sheets was 2 for 4.
Pit Stop scored multiple runs in the second, third and fifth innings on way to a 15-4 victory over Vidalia Saturday afternoon. Savoy got the win surrendering four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four in five innings.
Sheets was 2 for 4 with a three-run triple in the third inning, while Cardinale was 3 for 4, Boyter was 2 for 4 with a double and one RBI, St. Pierre hit a triple and Madison Nickens was 1 for 2 with two RBIs.
Moving into bracket play as the third seed amongst six teams, Pit Stop defeated Menard 3-2 Sunday morning behind a complete game from Gonzales, who surrendered just two runs on seven hits and two walks over seven innings.
Menard went ahead 2-0 with single runs in the second and third innings before Pit Stop plated two in the fifth to knot it up. Plauche lined a triple to left center in the sixth but was eventually caught at the plate. Menard loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh inning but second baseman Boyter snatched a liner off Gonzales’ glove and fired to Templet at third who threw across the diamond to Manton at first for a triple play.
Day was hit with one out in the bottom half and pinch running St. Pierre scored from second on Nickens’ groundout to win the game after Bryant Bourgeois drew a walk.
Pit Stop was eliminated in the semifinals to tournament champion West Monroe 8-3 despite only being down one run going into the bottom of the sixth. Kroll surrendered four runs on six hits and one walk over five innings striking out two. Savoy gave up four unearned runs on four hits in one inning of relief.
Sheets was 2 for 3, while Chris Delaune had a two-run double in the sixth inning and Day and Nickens each hit doubles.
