The East Ascension Sportsman’s League (EASL) will host two fishing rodeos this summer, including a saltwater fishing rodeo in Grand Isle and a children’s rodeo at Twin Lakes in Dutchtown.

Friday, July 18 and Saturday, July 19, EASL will hold its annual Terry Melancon Memorial Saltwater Challenge fishing rodeo in Grand Isle.  Entry fees are $10 per person with 100 percent payback to the winners in six different fish categories.  Teams will register on Friday evening and enjoy a free dinner.  Fishing begins at daylight on Saturday morning with weigh-in at 3 pm.  Saturday evening features a free fried fish supper and announcement of the winners.  Waterfront camp lodging is also available on a limited basis.

The Grand Isle “Challenge” is open to EASL members only and memberships can be purchased as late as Friday evening before the rodeo.  EASL membership is $10 for one year and open to all.  Contact Keith Saucier, 225-715-9487, to register.

On Saturday, Aug. 2, EASL’s 48th annual Kid’s Fishing Rodeo will be held at Twin Lakes Park in Dutchtown.  Registration opens at 6:30 a.m. and fishing will be from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.  The rodeo is open to ages 2 through 14 and there is no entry fee.  Kids must bring their own rod and reel or cane pole and must use live bait.  The rodeo features trophies for several age groups and prize categories and lots of door prizes, including two bicycles.  For more information, contact Nathon Williams at 278-8254.
