HEAD OF ISLAND – The 32 teams of anglers who competed in last week’s Wednesday Evening Bass Tourment out of Canal Bank Club didn’t get much help from Mother Nature, as a summertime cold front pushed through and pushed water out of the Amite River-Blind River basin the weekend prior.

Murray and Ryan Alexander put together a solid crank bait and plastic worm pattern in deep water to fool four really nice bass that weighed 5.34 pounds and took first place in overall weight and a pay day of $392.

The team of Cody Roper and Kevin Cantillo used a pattern on plastic baits in Blind River and sacked a five-bass limit that tipped the scales at 5.15 pounds for second place and a $280 check.

The third-place winners, Thomas McGriff and Heath Carter, only weighed two fish, but one of them took top honors for “Big Bass” at 3.76 pounds. Their total weight came to 5.02 pounds, earning the tandem a check for $313.

David Cavell teamed up with Garrett Stricker and caught three keepers for 4.92 pounds and fourth place overall. The two also earned second place “Big Bass” honors with a 2.72-pound fish and took home $163 for their efforts.

Finishing in fifth place was the team of Rusty Moran and Jared Laiche, with five bass weighing a total of 4.62 pounds. The two earned a $78 pay off. In sixth were Terry Gautreau and Ronnie Halker  to round out the money winners, catching five keepers for a total weight of 4.56 pounds and a $56 prize.

Swamp Pop Café supplied the weekly meal for the contestants featuring white beans, rice and home-made corn bread.
