The temperature was hot Wednesday, and so was the team of Brian Holmes and Doug Lemieux as they came away the winners out of 34 teams competing in the weekly Wednesday Evening Bass Tournament, held out of the Canal Bank Club.
The two anglers weighed in the only five bass limit that totaled 8.60 pounds. They also took big bass honors with a 3.36 pounder caught on a spinner bait.
Holmes and Lemieux won $380 for their first-place finish, with the big bass award also netting them $123.
Taking runner up honors was the team of Jared Halker and James Cowart with five fish weighing 5.38 and a check for $257. Following close behind came the team of Patrick Rachal and Derek White with three fish that totaled 4.34 and a $184 payday.
Finishing in fourth place were Davin Miller and John Talley with two bass that weighed 3.92. Their largest fish took second place big bass, weighing 3.00 and their take was $199, as the total weight earned $142 and big bass earned $52. Their big bass was caught on a Senko.
Rounding out the top seven paying spots was the teams of Tre and Boyd Gautreau, three bass for 3.58 pounds; Mike and George Sevario, three bass for 3.38 pounds; and Chris and Chuck Dufour, one bass for 2.92 pounds.
All the fishermen commented that plenty of fish were caught, but they just weren’t the right size.
The Wednesday Evening Bass Tournament is a 20-week circuit held every Wednesday out of the Canal Bank Club on Hwy. 22. Boats go out at 5 p.m. with weigh-in scheduled for 8:15 p.m. The entry fee is $40 per team and includes big bass and a supper. This week’s supper was provided By Brian’s Supermarket on Hwy 22 in Head of Island.
