Jena 7, Sterlington 5

JENA — KayeLea Dearman singled home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth as Jena edged the Sterlington Lady Panthers, Tuesday evening.

Tamia Brown reached on a leadoff error and moved to third on Tia Brown's one-out double to set up Dearman's key hit. Brown later scored on an error to put the Lady Giants up 7-5.

Kat Wilson retired the side in order in the top of the seventh to preserve the complete game victory.

Sterlington (1-1) went up 2-0 with single markers in the second and third.

Catherine Trichelle led off the second with a home run to straight-away center field, and the Lady Panthers tacked on an unearned run in the third.

Jena answered with five in the home half of the third behind Cat Bailey's two-run single and Maggie Engles' RBI base hit.

Sterlington drew even with two in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Jada Smith singled with one out in the fourth, stole second and crossed home on K.B. Briley's RBI double. Carson Lyon then singled Briley home, bringing the Lady Panthers within 5-4.

Sterlington manufactured the equalizer in the sixth when Smith beat out a bunt single, pilfered second and completed the circuit on consecutive groundouts by Tanner Wilson and Briley.

Brown doubled and Bailey, Dearman and Engles singled for the Lady Giants (1-0).

Trichell went 2-for-3 with a bomb as Sterlington out-hit Jena 9-4. Smith finished 2-for-3 with two runs and a pair of stolen bases. Briley doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice, Kaela Mullins doubled, and Lyon, Rebekah Wood and Breanna Sylvestri singled.

Sylvestri was the pitcher of record for the Lady Panthers with Wilson in relief.
