Bastrop High junior set new state records in the para-ambulatory 100 and 200-meter sprints Friday at LSU.
BATON ROUGE — Bastrop High junior sprinter Bobby Williams shattered two state records at the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Track & Field State Meet on Friday afternoon at LSU's Bernie Moore Stadium.
Competing in the para-ambulatory division, Williams was clocked at 13.18 in the 100-meter dash and 27.94 in the 200m.
Bastrop received a pair of sixth-place finishes Saturday afternoon in the Class 4A girls and boys meets.
Senior Sha'Myron Morrison picked up points in the 100m (11.08) and 200m (22.52).
For the Lady Rams, Kiana Johnson, Casual Williams, Jakyra Langham and Tiffany Washington were clocked at 1:47.33 in the 4 x 200 relay. Johnson was also sixth in the 100m at 12.71.
Cecilia won the 4A boys state title with 55 points. Westgate was six points back with 49, followed by Carencro with 46 and A.J. Ellender with 44. Neville finished with 23 points, tops among District 2-4A schools. Franklin Parish long jumper T.J. Pleasant (22-09.75) was the only state champion from 2-4A.
Edna Karr was the girls' team champion with 64 points. Benton edged out Vandebilit Catholic 39-37 for second place. Neville was seventh with 30 points.
In other action, three athletes from Morehouse Parish represented St. Frederick in the Class 1A Meet on Friday.
John Ellender of Mer Rouge won the 1600m (4:42.18) and was runner-up in the 800m (2:02.79) while his brother, Will Ellender, was fifth in the 1600m (4:53.68) and sixth in the 3200m (10:49.75).
Seventh-grader Alyssa Dismuke of Bastrop narrowly missed making the podium with a fourth-place finish in the shot put (33-07.50).
St. Frederick placed fourth in both the boys and girls team standings.
In Class 3A, JaKayla White, formerly of Bastrop, placed runner-up in the 1600m (5:28.87).
