BATON ROUGE -- No. 1 LSU lost its first game of the season Friday night as Kansas claimed an 11-9 win in Alex Box Stadium.

BATON ROUGE – Top-ranked LSU (12-0) looks to extend its season-opening win streak as the Tigers host Kansas (9-3) in a three-game series in Alex Box Stadium.

The City of Gonzales in conjunction with many community leaders and volunteers will host the Dixie Youth World Series Aug. 6-12. Twenty-four teams will participate from the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. The undertaking by the city will involve over 300 volunteers from Ascension Parish.

Gregg Patterson is the chairman for this enormous event set to bring millions of dollars into the local economy during this week.

With all the high water in the Atchafalaya Basin, most folks are thinking about boiled crawfish. I’ll admit, I’m thinking about them too. There are some folks doing a little fishing in the basin but not too many.

The LSU men's basketball team went through a 55-minute workout at the Bridgestone Arena Wednesday in final preparations for the Southeastern Conference Tournament opening round game with the University of Tennessee.

Ricky Lawrence and Grant Auzenne, both of Dutchtown, and Carlos Hermosilla of East Ascension were named to the 2009-10 LHSSCA Boys Soccer All State Team for Division I.

Dutchtown standouts Chelsea Cruthirds and Lexi Gibbs were selected to the 2009-10 LHSSCA Girls Soccer All State Team for Division I.

NOAA’s Fisheries Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced their joint determination that the loggerhead sea turtle is globally comprised of nine distinct population segments that qualify as “species” for listing as endangered or threatened under the Endangered Species Act.
