LETTER: Reader unhappy with garbage in neighborhood

Weekly Citizen

As we reach that enviable time in our lives when we retire from the everyday workplace, oftentimes we lose track of the day or the week. Fortunately, in the neighborhood in Prairieville in which I live, I am reminded twice weekly so I can easily adjust my internal calendar.

How can this be, you may ask. Well, on those days when I go out to run errands I know that the day of the week is either Monday or Thursday because of the garbage cans that are strewn about, many in the street, and the proliferation of garbage trucks which has fallen in the street and was not picked up by the “hoppers” on the garbage trucks.

What a sad commentary. People pay a substantial sum of money to have their garbage properly disposed and their containers placed back on the curb where they were required to place the full containers. Is it wrong for us to demand proper handling of our garbage? I think not, but unfortunately those of us who use the company that is responsible for this littering problem allow them to continue unabated. I guess they believe the old adage “Good enough is good enough.”

Come on people, let the company know that you are displeased with their service and demand they correct the problem. Together we can make a difference – that is if we care about our neighborhood.
