LETTER: Parties too ‘politically correct’

The Weekly Citizen

Years ago, when I registered to vote, I made a decision that proved to have far reaching effects on my thinking process.

Being of a somewhat radical nature in my youth I decided to register as a non-party voter. To say that my decision was intended to afford a clearer perception of the political process would make me appear far wiser in my youth than I was. It just seemed to be the thing to do, since I didn’t know or care much about the political parties or their agendas at the time.

I still don’t bask in the political arena today, but over the years - too many to count - my decision of long ago has afforded me the privilege of observing the two major political parties from an unbiased point of view since I was not associated with either party.
It has become all too apparent that these two parties have evolved into something that surely couldn’t have been their original intent, hopefully. Instead of touting their attributes and seeking candidates for office that would rise to the challenge of keeping this country safe and viable in the changing times by utilizing the strong Christian values by which this country was founded, they have sadly changed their agendas.
Win at any cost seems to be the new protocol. They have both “slightly altered” their positions on issues too numerous to count in order to win favor with wealthy or “politically correct” activists whose interests are little more than self-serving.

Unfortunately, they have learned that this agenda proves very effective in gaining ground in the political arena. Unless one is associated with either of these parties, the possibility of enough funding or exposure to be considered for office is virtually nonexistent. I shiver to think of the commitments a person has to submit to in order to be considered as a primary candidate representing a political party today.

Bearing all of these thoughts in mind, I only hope that when you go to the polls in November that you will consider voting for the candidates that will uphold the high Christian morals and ethical standards upon which this country was founded and not be led as “sheep to the slaughter” by political party affiliations.
