It’s time we look at the spike in oil prices from a different point of view.
We hear all the doom and gloom about people driving less, but I think it’s a reason to celebrate. The higher oil prices are an important moral victory for our planet. For too many years, Americans have led the way in the savage desecration of our planet through hazardous emissions from the chemical industry, as well as overpopulation and overabundance of motor vehicles. Heroes like Barbara Streisand, Alec Baldwin and Al Gore (the real winner of the 2000 election) have been preaching for years that it was time for Americans to make sacrifices. Because people would rather listen to immoral despots such as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, the warnings of the heroes have been heinously ignored. Now they have no choice but to pay the price.
As part of the environmental movement, I’m hoping that the oil prices will soar high enough to get cars off the road and bring people back to the days of walking. Notice I said nothing about bicycles - they roll on tires made from rubber, and chemical plants need to go, too.
This is a great time for the planet. I hope people of Ascension will join me doing Earth dances around the trees and proclaim, “Ten dollars a gallon is fine, as long as the Earth’s still mine.”
